Flashdance is still receiving good reviews as it continues its tour up and down the UK
The Halesowen News refers to the Wolverhampton run of the show last month and commends the show's energy, fast pace and passion. And, about Bruno, reviewer Bev Holder writes: "Bruno Langley put plenty of energy and emotion into his role as new character junkie Jimmy Kaminsky".
Flashdance is now in Edinburgh for the week and the Edinburgh Evening News reviews last night's show, giving it 5 stars and praises the cast, choreography and direction. Reviewer Josie Balfour comments that Bruno "gives Jimmy a sympathetic restlessness that dovetails well with Alex's bullish demeanour".
I went to see the show myself on Saturday on its last night in Manchester and had a great time - I'll post my own personal review of the show on here over the next day or two
It's interesting to note this comment from theatre manager David Mansfield: "The show's coming to Ipswich prior to London, so see the show in Ipswich before you have to pay West End prices."
Fingers crossed that it is going to get a West End run!
BRUNO: "IT'S GREAT TO GET SOMETHING OUT THERE THAT'S NEW"
In a recent interview with Bradford's Telegraph & Argus newspaper, Bruno talks in depth about Flashdance and how great it is to be a part of an original and new musical. He says: "It's an original show, with original songs. It's great to get something out there that's new. We're giving audiences chance to see something different from the usual shows doing the rounds."
Another review from this week's Manchester run of Flashdance has been published, although unfortunately it's a bit of a mixed one.
What's On Stage criticises what it perceives to be a weak plot and poor characterisation, but praises the choreography and performers.
About Bruno, reviewer Malcolm Wallace writes: "Bruno Langley also fares well as Jimmy, particularly when he has the chance to showcase his fine voice in the second act."
A couple of other reviews from the show's runs in Plymouth and Southampton where Bruno is praised, have also been added to the official Flashdance website.
A review from Southampton's Daily Echo comments on Bruno being "menacing" as Jimmy Kaminsky, whilst Plymouth's Western Morning News praises both Bruno and Bernie Nolan for providing "strong support".
Flashdance has now reached Manchester on its UK tour and is continuing to receive rave reviews.
One Blog More describes it as being a "first class production" and praises Bruno for bringing his character to life: "Former Corrie actor Bruno Langley was great as hoodie-wearing bad boy Jimmy and sang very well, in this, his first musical role. The way he played Jimmy - all jittery bravado - really brought life to what could have been a slightly two-dimensional character."
There's also a review in the Manchester Evening News, which gives the show 4 stars out of 5 and praises its nostalgia and fabulous choreography. Click here to read it.
There's an interview with Bruno in today's Manchester Evening News, which is basically extended from his interview with the M.E.N's blog that I posted last Tuesday.
In today's interview he talks about his role in Flashdance and how close he has become to his co stars - Bernie Nolan makes a mean Sunday Roast apparently!
His role as Jimmy Kaminsky was written especially for the musical and, talking about his character, Bruno says: "People perceive him as not a nice guy. He’s an 18/19-year-old streetkid living in Pittsburgh, US, and he’s just out of prison for robbery...it’s absolutely brilliant playing a baddie – I’ve only played good guys before."
Flashdance choreographer Arlene Phillips has praised Bruno in a new interview.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, she talks about the fact that Bruno and his co star Noel Sullivan aren't trained dancers and how this wasn't a problem for the show. She says: "Bruno has a big musical number and he has a fantastic voice but it’s done like a music video with him singing and the dancers performing behind him so he doesn’t dance. Noel’s role does not require him to dance either. A lot of the dancing is done by Alex, the main character, and by the ensemble in the street. Even if Noel and Bruno were trained dancers their roles wouldn’t actually require them to dance so it’s worked out well.”
I've just added a couple of pictures of Bruno, his Flashdance co stars and choreographer Arlene Phillips, which were taken during an official photoshoot to launch the musical back in May....click below to see them...
BRUNO LOOKING FORWARD TO BRINGING FLASHDANCE TO MANCHESTER
Bruno has been speaking to the Manchester Evening News's blog One Blog More about bringing Flashdance to the city next month.
He says that he considers Manchester a home from home and that it will be lovely to be in the city for the show.
And, speaking about taking on a singing role for the first time, he says that it doesn't worry him: "I come from a musical family and I've always been singing."
He also reveals that audience members have been going to see Flashdance decked out in 80s leotards, headbands and sweatshirts in homage to the show!
You can read more of Bruno's interview with One Blog More here.
