    Look Who's Back On TV

Former Buxton-based actor Bruno Langley is set to return to TV screens in the cult sci-fi classic Doctor Who.

The 22-year-old, famed for his role as Todd Grimshaw in Coronation Street, recently finished filming two episodes for the series which has just returned to BBC 1 starring Christopher Ecclestone and former pop princess Billie Piper.

And according to Bruno's family, who live in Buxton, the actor's character even shares an on-screen kiss with the time-travelling doctor's dashing assistant, played by Billie.

Sister Lakshmi Langley told the Buxton Advertiser: "Bruno spent two months filming the episodes in Cardiff — which feature the Daleks — and he had an absolutely brilliant time. He got on so well with Christopher, saying he was an amazing actor.

"Bruno's character is one of the good guys. He plays a sort of intellectual college boy — a genius — which made us all laugh."

Lakshmi says that a lot of high tech computer animation in front of blue screens was used during filming. "That was a new experience for him," she added.

Currently living in Manchester, Bruno was brought up in Buxton and attended Harpur Hill Primary School and Buxton Community School, as well as being a member of the REC Theatre Company.

The actor has kept himself busy since leaving Coronation Street, where he achieved high acclaim and television history for playing the first on-screen gay character in the Mancunian soap.

As well as making a cameo appearance in The League of Gentleman's Apocalypse film, Bruno is preparing to make his theatre debut as part of the Stafford Festival Shakespeare.

He has been picked to play the lead role of Romeo Montague in an open-air production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet at Stafford Castle.

Diane Langley, Bruno's mum, said: "This will be something quite different for him. He wants to explore different sides of his profession and not just stick to the same things.

"I think it will be quite challenging, but he believes it will be good for his career."

Performances of Romeo and Juliet will be staged from June 30 to July 16. Tickets are available from the Stafford Gatehouse Theatre box office on 01785 254653.
