Bruno Longs For A Bard Review
Never mind Capulet versus Montague, this is Enders versus Corrie. Scarlett Johnson, made famous in EastEnders as Vicki Fowler, has been chosen to take the lead at this year's Stafford Festival Shakespeare open air production of Romeo and Juliet - which can be seen in the grounds of Stafford Castle throughout July.
And alongside Scarlett is fellow 22-year-old Bruno Langley, best-known from rival soap Coronation Street for his part as Todd Grimshaw. Since leaving Manchester's most famous street last August, work for Bruno has been pouring in. From this week, you will also be able to spot him at cinemas in The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse, a film based on the phenomenally successful BBC television comedy. Already a fan of the show before he secured a part in the movie, he has also just completed filming for several episodes of the new Doctor Who, as well as putting in a cameo appearance - as a milkman - in Brit-Asian romantic comedy movie Halal Harry, the release date for which has yet to be confirmed.
"The filming for both The League Of Gentlemen and for Halal Harry only took a day. I'm hoping the next chance I get to be in a film, I'll be able to spend two days on set and break my record," says Bruno, adding that having left Soap World behind, he's now hoping to secure bigger roles in movies.
In the meantime, however, Bruno says he is concentrating his efforts on learning his lines for Romeo And Juliet.
"Many actors would want to play Romeo because it's such a great part. Who else can go on stage, say a lot of rubbish, and kiss a beautiful girl?
"No, I'm joking," he adds. "This will be my first professional theatre role and I'm throwing myself in at the deep end. Of course, I'm nervous, but it's good to have a few nerves beforehand. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm sure Scarlett will make a great star-crossed lover. I've just been shown a model of how the set will look too, and it looks fantastic. I can't wait to get through that final dress rehearsal and just go for it."
Romeo And Juliet can be seen at Stafford Castle between Thursday, June 30, and Saturday, July 15. For further information, call the box office on: 01785 254653.
