    Queer Up North

With his back now turned on the Street, the boy who came out to millions as Todd Grimshaw talks returning to Doctor Who, enjoying a gay night out on the tiles and donning O07's dinner jacket.

Bruno Langley has something to confess: he would love to be the next James Bond. And with Hollywood crying out for a new 007 and Bruno hailed as the new Jude Law by Corrie scriptwriter Daran Little, perhaps he's in with a fighting chance -as long as the baby-face fits. For the moment he's adding to an impressive CV with roles in Romeo And Juliet at Stratford-Upon-Avon and in the BBC's triumphant revival of Doctor Who. Of the latter, cynics suggested Langley was only there to capture the gay vote - something Russell T. Davies hotly denied.

'I'm grateful to him for saying that, it was really cool,' says Bruno. 'I would like to think I was there for my acting.' Doctor Who also saw him share a kiss with Billie Piper. But could she possibly be better than ex-popstar Adam Rickitt? 'I am not going to answer that,' blushes Bruno in an impressive demonstration of the politically correct side-step manoeuvre. But the actor is not afraid to be gossiped about - he recently spent a night out at Poptastic in Canal Street, Manchester, with Corrie pal Antony Cotton. Cotton is, of course, no shrinking violet. When Bruno accompanied him on a recent shopping trip to Habitat, Cotton yelled, 'this will look nice in our bedroom!'

Bruno loves Cotton's Corrie character, but like the actor who plays him, feels he ill-deserves the flack he receives from the gay press for playing a supposedly stereotypical camp queen.

'Antony knows his mind. I think he's right,' says Bruno. Another thing that makes Bruno boil is the ever more bloated glutton that is celebrity culture. It's getting a bit much isn't it? When you go into WH Smith there is a huge amount of celebrity magazines and most of them have crap in them. I am not saying yours is like that but it has reached a saturation point and it's now starting to seep over into TV.' Despite his celebrity pet hates, Bruno makes sure he looks mighty fine when he steps out. 'If you leave the house a photographer might snap you so you don't want to look like a complete scruff bag,' he says. So does our Bruno appreciate what he sees in the mirror before stepping out. 'Am I good looking? You can't answer that yourself really. I am not a bad looking guy, am I?'
