Flashdance the Musical - Woking
Reviewed By: Beth Woodger
If you are looking for an exciting night out filled with energy, then Flashdance would certainly fit the bill.
The show, on stage at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking last week, has now moved on to the next leg of its nationwide tour, which continues until February.
Based on the hit film of the 1980s, Flashdance is a real contrast to the traditional musicals many of us are used to.
The cast was of a very high standard and the dancers were lucky to have had Arlene Phillips, of Strictly Come Dancing and Hot Gossip fame, as their choreographer.
She added some interesting and edgy moves to the pieces and the group numbers really showed the cast at its best, with some really impressive male dancers.
Djalenga Scott took on the lead role of welder by day and flashdancer by night, Alex Owens.
Even though she was the understudy, Djalenga was a true natural on stage and appeared very at ease in the part.
Former Hear’Say band member Noel Sullivan was also a strong performer as Noel Hurley.
Ex-Coronation Street star Bruno Langley was quite impressive in the role of Jimmy Kaminsky. Even though his Pittsburg accent appeared to be more of a New York dialect, his singing voice was surprisingly good.
